Greece in USA is a non-profit organization with a global reach that promotes knowledge of contemporary and ancient Greek Culture while fostering international cultural cooperation, experimentation and social engagement. The organization's extensive programming includes commissioned artists' and curators' projects, residencies, educational and ecological initiatives and the commitment to cultivating a sensible culture of innovation and thought leadership.
We are dedicated to offering innovative and unique programs in education and the arts, all exploring the evolving diversity and richness of Greek and Cypriot cultures. The non- profit organization seeks to generate new thinking about the arts and promote cross- cultural dialogue through partnerships and new platforms of creation.
The organization promotes international exchange of practice and knowledge in the arts - visual and sound art, dance, architecture, theatre - research on the methods used in curatorial and performing practices and investigation of points of intersection between the arts, science and the public sphere by means of interventions, collective actions, educational programs and publications.
Greece in USA aims to collaborate and build long-lasting partnerships with leading institutions and individuals who actively engage with Greece and its culture and to convey a comprehensive and distinctive representation of Greece and Cyprus by producing cultural and educational programs that encourage intercultural dialogue and enable cultural involvement.
Our principal goals are:
To shape and envision the image of contemporary Greece in the United States beyond existing stereotypes
To recalibrate the assumed center of Greek national narratives to include those who have often been denied historical recognition.
To transform the way Greek histories are told and produce projects that reflect the vast, rich complexity of Greek culture.
To support Greek inspired cultural practices by welcoming and nurturing new ideas and influential perspectives
To commission, produce and present contemporary Greek and Cypriot culture that grapple with many of the pressing social and political issues of our time
To foster Greek scholarship and cultural research within the American educational system
To develop a transatlantic network for the exchange of culture and ideas

DECAEXASELIDO Special Online Edition 2026
DECAEXASELIDO Special Online Edition 2026 constitutes the first publication of its kind by the cultural and research organisation THE ΤΕΛΟΣ SOCIETY. Developed through the TTS Open Call "The Water Arteries of Greece and Cyprus," this constitues the special online edition. It was originally selected by our selection committee but nomadikiarxitektoniki.net is not a registered legal entity, thus TTS decided to honor their exceptional research through the online edition.
The title DECAEXASELIDO refers to the fundamental editorial unit of a standard sixteen-page print publication. Within the framework of an open call, researchers and scholars were invited to submit abstracts of dissertations and research projects that investigate aspects of culture in Greece.
Through this second edition of DECAEXASELIDO, THE TEΛΟΣ SOCIETY seeks to foster a plurality of voices and contribute to a substantive and critical dialogue on the water landscapes of Greece and Cyprus: their arteries, histories, infrastructures, and political formations. The edition explores water not only as a natural resource, but as a cultural, social, and political force that has shaped territories, communities, economies, and collective memories across the region. At the same time, it recognizes and supports researchers as authors in their fields of expertise, while conferring institutional and scholarly recognition upon their work and advancing critical approaches to the evolving relations between water, society, and place.

SELECTED RESEARCHERS
The Sound of Water Behind the Sound of the Wind presents the outcomes of an artistic research residency on the island of Sifnos, conducted in 2024 amid a severe water scarcity crisis. Through walking practices, interviews, field observation, and performative interventions, the research explored the island’s historic water systems and the role of women in collecting and caring for water. The study contrasts traditional communal practices—such as cisterns, wells, and collective forms of water sharing—with contemporary pressures stemming from tourism, privatization, desalination, and patriarchal modes of water management. Drawing on the feminist theories of Ursula Le Guin and Astrida Neimanis, the research approaches water not as a mere natural resource, but as a social, cultural, and embodied relationship. Artistic interventions at wells, cisterns, and streams activated local memories and highlighted the ecological and social consequences of water scarcity, proposing a renewed engagement with collective practices of care, knowledge, and relationality with water.

Ο Ήχος του Νερού Πίσω από τον Ήχο του Ανέμου παρουσιάζει τα αποτελέσματα μιας καλλιτεχνικής ερευνητικής φιλοξενίας (residency) στη Σίφνο, που πραγματοποιήθηκε το 2024 εν μέσω μιας έντονης κρίσης λειψυδρίας. Μέσα από πρακτικές περιπάτου, συνεντεύξεις, επιτόπια παρατήρηση και περφόρμανς, η έρευνα διερεύνησε τα ιστορικά συστήματα νερού του νησιού και τον ρόλο των γυναικών στη συλλογή και φροντίδα του νερού. Η μελέτη αντιπαραβάλλει τις παραδοσιακές κοινοτικές πρακτικές — όπως οι στέρνες, τα πηγάδια και οι συλλογικές μορφές διαμoιρασμού — με τις σύγχρονες πιέσεις που προκύπτουν από τον τουρισμό, την ιδιωτικοποίηση, την αφαλάτωση και την πατριαρχική διαχείριση. Αντλώντας έμπνευση από τις φεμινιστικές θεωρίες της Ursula Le Guin και της Astrida Neimanis, η έρευνα αντιμετωπίζει το νερό όχι ως έναν απλό φυσικό πόρο, αλλά ως μια κοινωνική, πολιτισμική και ενσώματη σχέση. WHO THEY ARE & WHAT THEY DO
Nomadic Architecture carries out actions in public space and in urban voids that operate at the intersection of art, architecture, and activism. Through walking, encounters, the cultivation of land, and food, as well as ephemeral cartographies,these actions cross boundaries of race, gender, ethnicity, and language, bringing to the fore emotions and conditions of refusal, exception, and “bare life,” as well as compassion, reconciliation, and revolt. The actions emerge in cracks, displacements, passages, and the fragmentation of contemporary space. They engage with areas in crisis and focus on issues of migration and displacement, gender difference, and the struggle for the commons. The process is grounded in collaboration among nomadic subjects from different disciplines, as well as in collaboration with local residents, through the creation of “ephemeral communities.”
Eleni Tzirtzilaki is an architect, community artist, and poet. Her artistic practice includes walking-based actions, poetry, painting, writing, and performance. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture in Florence and completed her PhD at the National Technical University of Athens, with the dissertation “Displaced Urban Nomads in Metropolises. Contemporary Issues of Mobility, the City, and Space” (Nissos, 2009). She is a founding member of Nomadic Architecture and has been a member of the Urban Void (Astiko Keno) collective, as well as part of the team that designed Monastiraki Square, following an architectural competition. Her projects have been featured in numerous publications, including Nomadic Architecture: Walking in Vulnerable Landscapes (Futura, 2018), Home as Fabric, Memoria: Women on the Mountain, Woman Case – Event Performative Lectures (2024), and the recent Wandering Women Who Dwell with Unknown Animals and Grow Wings (Futura, 2024). She has published two poetry collections: These Days I Listen to Athens (Gavriilidis, 2013) and Her Body – From the Sea (Gavriilidis, 2020).
Sevie Tsampalla is a Brussels‑based curator. Her curatorial practice focuses on site‑specific artistic approaches and explores the possibilities that emerge when art intersects with ecology, public space, and collective forms of organisation. She studied art history and cultural studies and holds a PhD in exhibition studies from Liverpool John Moores University. Her research examined the complex entanglements between biennials and practices of commoning. She has curated exhibitions and projects for S.M.A.K., Tate Liverpool, and Liverpool Biennial, and co‑curated Bruges Triennial 2024: Spaces of Possibility. Since 2025, she is a curator at LOV2030, where she oversees and co-shapes the artistic programme of Leuven and the region of East Brabant as European Capital of Culture 2030.
Gedske Ramløv (b. Copenhagen) lives and works between Italy and Denmark. She studied drawing and painting with artist Karen Højgaard and took drawing courses at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, DK. She also studied Oriental philosophy at the University of Urbino and worked as an assistant to Italian artist Pier Paolo Calzolari. Her practice unfolds through interdisciplinary projects that combine art, landscape, and sound, often in collaboration with curators and other artists. Engaging with water, soil, air and studying natural phenomena, her works become vehicles that carry memories and information by investigating paradigms that testify the 'metamorphic' development of a community or a particular geographical area. Her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions across Europe and Asia. Throughout her career, she has participated in workshops and seminars, international study experiences and artist residencies in Austria, Greece, Romania, San Marino, and the Venice lagoon.

Georgia Kotretsos, is a visual artist, researched and founder/editor-in-chief of THE ΤΕΛΟΣ SOCIETY, Arts & Culture Research Lab Observatorium.
Vasilena Mitsiadi is CEO of e-trikala and formed Senior engineer at Watera Hellas. She is a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master’s degree in Quality Assurance from the Hellenic Open University. She works in the field of water treatment, specializing in desalination and filtration systems, providing solutions for clean and potable water. Through her professional experience, she witnesses on a daily basis the vital role of water in the development and well-being of remote regions, as well as the growing criticality of water scarcity caused by climate change and poor water resource management. She has previously served as Deputy Mayor for Culture, Sports, and Education in the Municipality of Trikala and as Vice President of the Research Center – Tsitsanis Museum. In parallel with her professional career, she is actively engaged—on an amateur yet passionate level—in theatre and photography. She is a founding member of the I.M.N.I. Artistic Collective and participates in the project team of the For Women – Artivism Project.
Oliana Antonopoulou holds a master’s degree in Journalism and New Media, a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Media and a degree in Greek Philology. She worked as a news editor at a daily newspaper for nearly ten years and, since July 2006, has served as Head of the Press Office, Public Relations - CSR Department, as well as the Water Museum of the Thessaloniki Water Supply & Sewerage Company (EYATH S.A.), Greece’s second-largest water utility. An experienced communications executive in strategic corporate affairs, she specializes in sustainability and climate crisis communication, crisis management, and ESG reporting. She is a full member of the Editors’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers (ESIEMTH), the European Federation of Journalists and a member of the Communications Managers Group of EurEau (the European federation of national associations of water services).
Nayia Yiakoumaki has been the Director of the Hellenic Centre in London since September 2022. From 2005 to 2022 she was a curator at the Whitechapel Gallery, where from 2016 she also served as Head of Curatorial Studies and founding director of the MA Curating Art and Public Programmes in collaboration with London South Bank University. At the Whitechapel Gallery, she developed an innovative programme of research exhibitions for the Archive Gallery, worked on commissions, and from 2011 to 2020 led NEON Curatorial Exchange & Award, an annual international curatorial exchange programme, founded and funded by the NEON Organisation and delivered by the Whitechapel Gallery. She also co-directed the Athens Biennale organisation from 2016 to 2017. Yiakoumaki has worked in arts education for over thirty years. She has conceived over forty exhibitions and commissions, including John Latham: Anarchive (2010), Rothko in Britain (2012), Aspen Magazine: 1965–1971 (2012), Black Eyes & Lemonade: Curating Popular Art (2013), Stephen Willats: Concerning Our Present Way of Living (2014), Intellectual Barbarians: The Kibbo Kift Kindred (2015–2016), Imprint 93 (2016), Guerrilla Girls: Is it even worse in Europe? Dr. Beth Rose Middleton Manning (Afro-Caribbean, Eastern European) is a Professor of Native American Studies at University of California Davis, located in Patwin homelands. She is the author of two books: Trust in the Land: New Directions in Tribal Conservation (2011, UA Press) and Upstream: Trust Lands and Power on the Feather River (2018, UA Press). A collaborative social scientist, Beth Rose works with Tribes and non-profit organizations on environmental health, sustainable rural economic development, the historical and political context of river restoration, the reintroduction of fire for landscape care, rematriation/repatriation, and Indigenous-led stewardship and climate adaptation. Beth Rose received her BA in Nature and Culture from UC Davis, and her Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley.
Georgios Taxiarchopoulos a distinguished visual artist, studied in Athens, Paris, Sydney, Kitakyushu, Belgrade, Rijeka- Visual Arts, Cultural Management and Cultural Policy, Economics and a postgraduate degree in Digital Art Forms. He was awarded and/or received scholarships from Greece (IKY, B&E Goulandris, G&Z Spyropoulou), France (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennesy), Japan (CCA Kitakyushu), Croatia (Croatian Cultural Alliance) etc. He served for a number of years in various management positions at Art-Athina and Art-Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Cyprus, the Limassol Arts Center - Papadakis Warehouses and Local Government Organizations as director. He was homophonous elected and served as President of the EUNIC Cluster Cyprus. He is an active member of international networks for Culture & the Arts. He is the founding director of the “ACEY Europe – Arts & Culture Community” non-profit company and a PhD candidate at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has conducted research, publications, and editions on Art, Education, exhibition curation, and Civil Society. He has exhibited individually and in groups at international exhibitions, festivals, museums, and major events around the world.
Dr. Liana Psarologaki is an architect, artist, and interdisciplinary scholar currently associate professor and the research and impact lead at Buckinghamshire New University UK. Previously she was the founding Head of Architecture at the University of Suffolk UK, Chair of Education for the Royal Institute of British Architects East region (2020-2022) and a finalist of the Greek International Women Awards in the category of Design (2021). She trained at the National Technical University of Athens and practiced architecture before completing one of the first interdisciplinary practice-based PhDs at the Centre of Spatial Analysis and Intervention of UCA Canterbury, UK. Her work examines how people sense, live and experience spaces, places, and environments integrating ecofeminist perspectives with posthuman thought. She is the author of two monographs: Cultures of Erudition and Desire (Routledge, 2022) and Site-Reliant Immersive Experiences (Bloomsbury, 2025). She leads the interdisciplinary collective “A Woman’s Labour” at the Centre of Excellence in Health Inequalities (BNU).
UrbanDig Project is an artistic/research/community platform, developed by the not-for-profit organization ‘Ohi Pezoume Performing Arts Company’, based in Athens, Greece. It acts within the intersection of qualitative research, artistic interventions and community actions. During every project, community engagement and participatory mapping practices serve as foundation for building site-specific performances in public space.

GENETEIRA was founded by Christina Tripodianaki and it is an independent cultural platform exploring memory, tradition, and Greek identity through people, places, and lived experience. It focuses on how cultural memory is formed, carried, and shared, shaping our understanding of origin, belonging, and continuity across generations.Working through storytelling, research, and cultural observation, GENETEIRA develops original narrative projects rooted in real landscapes, human stories, and everyday practices. Tradition is approached as a living expression of memory, embedded in language, gestures, rituals, and the relationship between people and place. The platform collaborates openly and independently with cultural institutions, companies, artists, researchers, and local communities, creating thoughtful cultural narratives that connect past and present.
GENETEIRA operates as a flexible, project-based initiative, dedicated to translating memory and heritage into contemporary cultural expression, while honoring authenticity, cultural depth, and the evolving nature of Greek identity.
At this stage, GENETEIRA operates as an independent cultural platform and curatorial initiative, not as a registered association, NGO, or formal organization. It does not currently have official members beyond myself and functions as a flexible, research-driven platform dedicated to cultural storytelling, place-based narratives, and interdisciplinary exploration. Its structure is intentionally open, allowing collaborations with artists, researchers, institutions, and local communities on a project-by-project basis.
