WHO THEY ARE & WHAT THEY DO

Stavroula Michael is an architectural historian and cultural theorist working across visual culture, imperial histories, and material and infrastructural studies. She holds a PhD in Architectural History and Theory from the University of Cyprus, where her research examined colonial and postcolonial water infrastructures through visual, archival, and historical materialist methodologies. Her work explores imperial regimes of visuality and power, with particular attention to how images, landscapes, and infrastructures mediate geopolitical and cultural imaginaries over the longue durée.

She has a longstanding collaboration with the Promitheas Research Institute (INEP), contributing as a researcher to interdisciplinary projects, publications, and academic events. Her research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, including forthcoming work in the International Journal of Islamic Architecture. She is co-chairing the session “Translocal Infrastructures: Rethinking Modernities Across the Global South and Beyond (19th–21st Centuries)” at the EAUH Conference 2026 (Barcelona). She has taught architecture and graphic design students at the University of Cyprus, University of Nicosia, European University Cyprus, and Minjiang University in China.

Dr. Christina Papadaki is a postdoctoral fellow and research associate at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), specializing in EcoHydrology, EcoHydraulics, and Environmental Management. She is currently involved in European-funded projects, advancing research in the field of freshwater ecology, water management, and the environmental management of mountain areas.
Dr. Papadaki earned her BSc in Water Resources Management from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) in 2008 and completed an MSc in Environment and Development of Mountain Regions at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) between 2008 and 2010. In 2019, she received her Ph.D. from AUA with a thesis titled "Development of Fish Habitat Suitability Criteria for the Estimation of Ecological Flows."
In 2020, she was awarded a Post-doctoral Fellowship from the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). In 2021, she became the principal investigator of a research project funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) on ecological flow modeling in freshwater ecosystems (https://flowtech.hcmr.gr/). She completed her second postdoctoral research in 2024. Since the beginning of her career, she has participated in more than 26 European and national research projects as a research associate.
Dr. Papadaki has authored over 23 research papers published in peer-reviewed international journals and more than 30 articles and abstracts in conference proceedings. She is also an active reviewer for international journals and serves as a member of the editorial board for a journal indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded® (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index® (SSCI). Additionally, she has worked as a scientific book editor. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Papadaki is the presenter of an environmental documentary series, "Green Stories," aired on ERT3, a Greek free-to-air television channel operated by the state-owned Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT).

Evgenia Tsianou is a Science Communicator and Environmental Scientist, born in Thessaloniki. She works at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland and is the founder of DISSCO Dissemination-Science-Communication, where she develops participatory and creative science communication initiatives, ranging from citizen science projects to experimental formats such as a stand-up comedy academy for climate action.

With a background in Atmospheric and Climate Science from ETH Zürich, Evgenia creates hands-on opportunities for people to engage with environmental topics firsthand. She has been looking at the places she visits through the “lens” of water and established the www.water-scarcity.com platform to provide inspiration about how we can manage water differently. Since 2020, she has collected audio stories exploring water scarcity through storytelling, interviews, myths, and oral histories. Beginning in the Greek islands, the project documents traditional water management and lived experiences, fostering dialogue and inspiring sustainable solutions.

Maria Vamvoukaki is an archaeologist focused on heritage consulting. She is particularly interested in sustainable redevelopment of heritage sites, with expertise in innovative research and outreach strategies that engage communities with the past. Her graduated in Archaeology and Art History from Aristotle University and earned a Master’s degree in Applied Archaeology from Leiden University in the Netherlands. Focusing on the post- research phase of cultural resource management, her work emphasizes how ancient built environments and historical topography can be sustainably integrated into contemporary settings. She investigates how archaeological and palaeoenvironmental research can meaningfully inform urban development, while addressing the challenges of preserving ancient ruins in rapidly evolving cities. Her thesis examines adaptive reuse as a strategy to enhance public engagement, instead of exclusive museumization, integrating archaeological remains as living heritage. It demonstrates how archaeological data, beyond excavation and academic study, can contribute to sustainable and historically informed urban design. She has worked in heritage management in a Dutch national non-profit monuments organization, which is focused on research, restoration, and sustainable redevelopment of monuments. She has studied medieval ruins for adaptive reuse and proposed archaeological and environmental research for restoring cultural landscape and promoting archaeological features. She participated in her first excavation at the Sanctuary of Eukleia in Vergina, Greece, and subsequently took part in the research project “A Request for Prehistoric Barrow Mounds” in North Limburg through Leiden University. She later participated in an urban redevelopment project in the city of Leiden, conducted in collaboration between Leiden and Delft Universities and the Municipality. The project focused on the sustainable redevelopment of urban districts, emphasizing cultural heritage and active public engagement. Through this work, she developed an interdisciplinary approach by collaborating with designers, engineers, public authorities, and local communities. This project also served as the foundation for her subsequent thesis research.

GENETEIRA was founded by Christina Tripodianaki and it is an independent cultural platform exploring memory, tradition, and Greek identity through people, places, and lived experience. It focuses on how cultural memory is formed, carried, and shared, shaping our understanding of origin, belonging, and continuity across generations.Working through storytelling, research, and cultural observation, GENETEIRA develops original narrative projects rooted in real landscapes, human stories, and everyday practices. Tradition is approached as a living expression of memory, embedded in language, gestures, rituals, and the relationship between people and place. The platform collaborates openly and independently with cultural institutions, companies, artists, researchers, and local communities, creating thoughtful cultural narratives that connect past and present.

GENETEIRA operates as a flexible, project-based initiative, dedicated to translating memory and heritage into contemporary cultural expression, while honoring authenticity, cultural depth, and the evolving nature of Greek identity.

At this stage, GENETEIRA operates as an independent cultural platform and curatorial initiative, not as a registered association, NGO, or formal organization. It does not currently have official members beyond myself and functions as a flexible, research-driven platform dedicated to cultural storytelling, place-based narratives, and interdisciplinary exploration. Its structure is intentionally open, allowing collaborations with artists, researchers, institutions, and local communities on a project-by-project basis.
